Pirates Escape Martens 101-100

The Providence Pirates traveled up to Cohoes, New York to take on the Bennington Martens on Sunday, February 27th, 2022. The Pirates got the win 101-100 and now stand 15-4 heading into the last weekend of the season. In order to have a home game at the start of the playoffs, the Pirates must win their huge game next weekend against the Binghamton Bulldogs.
What Happened -
The Pirates battled all afternoon long with the Martens on their way to completing the season sweep of them. Mike Rodriguez led the way for the Pirates as he recorded 27 points, eight assists, and four steals. The returning DaRosa scored 20 points to go with seven rebounds and five assists. The Pirates frontcourt dominated the boards. Kevin Briggs had 17 rebounds while Armani Baker had 15. This game was an all around team effort for the Pirates as they still try to integrate new players. Deven Palmer and Ryan Beatty both suited up for the second time today while Noah West made his season debut. The Pirates remain confident that these moving parts can be pulled together with the playoffs rapidly approaching. Practice this week will see the Pirates preparing to avenge their loss to Binghamton last weekend.
Turning Point -
The turning point of this game was in the fourth quarter. After battling back and forth all game, the Martens were finally able to crack a lead with a few minutes left. The Pirates, however, remained tough and finished out the game by a victory margin of only one point.
What's Next -
The Pirates have a massive showdown next weekend against the tough Binghamton Bulldogs. This game has major playoff implications and can be the difference between hosting a home game or traveling in the first round.
