Providence Pirates Suffer First Loss of Season
Published on 12.12.21
The Providence Pirates hosted the Atlantic City Seagulls on Saturday, December 11th, 2021. Unfortunately the Pirates suffered their first defeat of the season and have fallen to 5-1. The shorthanded Pirates fought all the way until the end of regulation in which they ended up falling to a final score of 101-95.

What Happened -
For the second consecutive game the Pirates found themselves without two of their starting five. Tom Garrick Jr. and Michael Mendes both did not suit up for Providence as fans saw the same starting lineup as last week. The Pirates went back and forth for 48 minutes with a very talented Atlantic City team. The Pirates were tied up 71-71 headed into a huge fourth quarter in which the Seagulls found a way to pull away off of turnovers. This game was certainly a test for Providence as it was against one of the best teams in the ABA's Northeast Region. While a loss is never a good thing, the bright side for Pirates fans is that they lost by single digits against a great team while down two crucial players. This just goes to show how high the Pirates ceiling is and the potential this team has when at full strength. The Pirates were led by first time Player of the Game Mike Rodriguez who kept the Pirates in it with 23 points, 10 assists, and four steals. Other strong performers were: Kevin Briggs with 21 points and 16 rebounds, Shane DaRosa with 22 points and 6 assists, Armani Baker with 17 points and 7 rebounds.
