The Providence Pirates suited up for their first game of the New Year as they shook off the rust and cruised to a 30 point victory in Worcester, Massachusetts over the Worcester Majors on Saturday, January 15, 2022. The Pirates bounced back strong after not playing for 4 weeks and now stand 6-2 after suffering two straight losses before the break.
What Happened -
The Pirates were able to feed off of the energy generated by the return of their leader Tom Garrick Jr. today as they breezed to a 33 point win and led almost the entirety of the second half by 25 or more. He recorded 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 9 assists. While the Pirates are still not at full strength, the return of Garrick Jr. was enough to boost Providence to a confident and comfortable win today. Today's Player of the Game was awarded to Armani Baker who recorded his first 30+ point game of the season. He finished with 32 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists as he continues to impress coaches and fans alike with his relentless hustle. He was backed by guard Shane DaRosa who tallied 25 points, 8 assists, and 3 rebounds. DaRosa drained an impressive five three pointers as the Pirates ran up the score over the course of the game. Center Kevin Briggs also had a great game with a remarkable 24 points, 16 rebounds, and 5 blocks. All 10 players who suited up for Providence today entered the game and even scored. The Pirates continue to show their depth as the season progresses.
Turning Point -
The turning point of this game was early in the second half when the Pirates showed that they were not to be taken lightly today. They never backed down from their halftime lead and led by more than 30 at points in the second half.
