#11 Pirates Fall to #13 Bulldogs Amid Roster Woes
Published on 2.20.22

The Providence Pirates hit the roads to Binghamton, New York for a heated matchup between two of the Northeast Region's finest. The Pirates were down three of their top six players in this one and lost to the Bulldogs 94-81. Pirates fans should feel optimistic about the team's defensive performance and be sure to pack the West Warwick Civic Center on Saturday, March 5th!

What Happened -

The Pirates made Binghamton work for every basket they scored in the first quarter as they played some of the best defense we have seen from them all year. The Pirates trailed 22-20 after one. The Bulldogs guards caught fire from deep in the second, however, as the home team jumped out to a 16 point lead at halftime. The Pirates ended up losing by 13 as they battled for the entire second half. While they never let the Bulldogs run away with the game, Providence rarely brought the deficit below ten. In an all around spectacular defensive showing, the Pirates offense was never able to capitalize. Integrating new players Deven Palmer and Ryan Beatty, while without two 20-plus point-per-game scorers, proved to be too tall of a task against a team of this level. Armani Baker led the Pirates with 14 points and an outstanding 19 rebounds, while newcomer Deven Palmer led the team in scoring with 19 points. If the Pirates can tap into their ability to play-make and hit open shots they should see a different result come next time they face off with Binghamton.

Turning Point -

The turning point of this game was in the second quarter when Bulldog's guard Ralph Williams caught fire from three. His defensive energy and ability to take advantage of open looks put Binghamton out to what turned out to be an insurmountable lead.

What's Next -

The Pirates look ahead to a back-to-back road trip next weekend as they travel to both the New Jersey Knights and Bennington Martens. Providence will take on New Jersey on Saturday night and travel to their hotel in Albany where they will face off with Bennington the next day.
