Pirates Win Season Opener in Thriller!
Published on 10.30.21
On October 30th, 2021 the Providence Pirates took to the high seas and began their journey with a 101-97 win at home over the Worcester Majors.
The Worcester Majors were led in scoring by guard Nicholas Tracy who led the way with 29 points and clutch scoring down the stretch. Worcester faced a 17 point deficit in the second half but fought hard behind Tracy to take the lead with only a few minutes remaining.
The play of the game came from point guard Shane DaRosa in clutch time. With just over a minute remaining DaRosa stole the lead from Worcester on a catch-and-shoot three pointer that electrified the first ever Pirates home crowd. Over the next minute an emphatic Kevin Briggs block and a trip to the free throw line for DaRosa iced the win for Providence. The Pirates are 1-0 on the season and look to follow up their winning ways next Saturday in Worcester.

Providence’s scoring was led by Tom Garrick Jr. who recorded an impressive 26 points despite not even playing in the fourth quarter due to cramping. The Pirates’ other notable signings; Shane DaRosa, Kevin Briggs, and Michael Mendes, all scored 18-plus points. No other Pirate had more than five. The Pirates’ frontcourt showed their rebounding effort as Briggs and Mendes had 11 and nine rebounds, respectfully.
