Published on 12.05.21
The Providence Pirates welcomed first time opponent the Elmira Eagles to Rhode Island on Sunday, December 5th, 2021. The Pirates came out victorious with a final score of 146-90. Providence is now
5-0. Coming into the week ranked #8 in the country, the Pirates will surely see themselves in the rankings ahead of this weekend's matchup with Atlantic City.
What Happened -
The Pirates were without their leading scorer in Tom Garrick Jr. as well as starting forward Michael Mendes this weekend. For the first time this season, the Pirates found themselves with co-players of the game. Guard Shane DaRosa and big man Kevin Briggs held it down for the Pirates combining for 32 points. They each played to their strengths; Briggs bringing in eight rebounds and blocking an outstanding 11 shots, and DaRosa dishing out five assists and getting a steal. Not only did this game show the Pirates depth as they went deeper and deeper into their bench, but every player on the roster played and scored in the win. This included two reserve squad players. Those players showing their worth were Victor Monteiro and Cody Borges. Providence continues to impose their will on opponents while showing just how deep their bench can go. The future is bright Pirates fans!
Turning Point -
The turning point of this game came when the bench unit showed no intention of letting the lead slip away as 7 players reached double figures including two double doubles by Armani Baker and Isaac Medeiros-Belovitch led the reserves and helped further the Pirate lead.
